The Monastery of St. John the Baptist on Ostrov near Davle is one of the oldest Czech male monasteries, founded around 999 by Prince Boleslav II. It is located on an island in the middle of the Vltava River, where it meets the Sázava River. Originally a wooden structure, it was repeatedly devastated and finally abandoned in 1517. Today, only the monastery foundations remain, but archaeological finds attest to its rich history, including valuable manuscripts such as the Ostrov Psalter and the oldest evidence of Czech spiritual lyrics – the Ostrov Song.Wikipedia
